Finding safe products is a challenge for people with an environmental illness like MCS.   It is important to realize that each person is different and a product that is tolerated by one person could cause a reaction in  another.  That being said, here are some recommendations by our members:

Clean & Green by Annie Berthold-Bond.  Non-toxic & environmentally-friendly housekeeping.
Detoxify or Die by Sherry Rogers. How to detoxify.
Get a Whiff of This: Perfumes (fragrances) -- the Invisible Chemical Poisons by Connie Pitts.
The Invisible Disease  by Gunni NordStrom.  Swedish researcher looks at EI caused by electromagnetic fields and chemical emissions from appliances.
MCS, A Survival Guide, 2nd Edition by Pamela Reed Gibson.  Best comprehensive book on MCS, great for those new to MCS.

Dish Liquid: Free & Clear by Seventh Generation.
Glass Cleaner: Vinegar.
Laundry Detergent: 7th Generation (Free & Clear)  Most popular among HEAL members.  Available at Kroger and most health food stores.

PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS

Hairspray: Aloe Vera 80 is alcohol and fragrance free. Magic Botanicals.
Shaving: Aveeno (unscented).
Shampoo: Magic Botanicals - Special formulations for MCS.   Heritage Olive Oil Shampoo - Unscented.
Suntan Lotion: UV Natural - Natural product from Australia, expensive but best available. Walgreens & other stores have Oil-Free / Fragrance-Free options.
Soap: Kiss My Face - Plain Olive Oil. Dr Bronners - Unscented. Kirks Castille Unscented Soap (Available at Kroger).
Toothpaste: Toms or baking soda & hydrogen peroxide.

BUILDING PRODUCTS

Plastic Sheeting - Tu Tuff #3 Vapor Barrier, avaialable from Shelter Supply. Can use for renovations or to seal off areas of your house.  Let it outgass overnight first.
Caulking - AFM Caulking Compound, Available from Pure Life Healthy Homes in Atlanta in 10oz tubes.
Paint - Envirosafe Paint, Made by  the chemically sensitive for the chemically sensitive, safest paint you can buy.
Joint Compound (Sheetrock Putty) - Murco M100
Wood - Use Poplar instaed of Pine, has much less odor, paint with safe paint, above, before installing.
Tile - Use Maerican made tiles, such as Marazzi, since imported tiles may contain lead.  Use C-Cure brand for Thinset & Grout.
